The game ships for $35 USD and has a clamshell case with a choice of three cover arts which resemble those used by Sega in Japan, North America and Europe towards the end of the Mega Drive's lifespan. Also included is a 24-page full colour instruction manual and a "MEGA Soundtrack Booster CD", containing the game's soundtrack. Pier Solar is an independently developed Sega Mega Drive game, released worldwide in December 2010 by WaterMelon. It is a turn-based RPG, and, at 8 megabytes (64 megabits) in size means it is currently the largest Sega Mega Drive game available. It is the first commercially released Mega Drive game since 2002's Mega Games 10 (though Beggar Prince was translated and re-released in 2006).

For an extra $15 the user can have his/her name included within the game (though this is limited to 500 copies).

The game is designed so that it cannot be emulated easily.
