After Burner Climax (アフターバーナークライマックス) is an arcade game in the After Burner series developed by Sega AM2 and released on Sega Lindbergh arcade hardware in 2006. The game casts the player as a member of the G.H.O.S.T. squadron's Brave Fangs Aero Team, acting under UN authority to counter a hostile state's nuclear threat.

In December of 2014 the game was de-listed from Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

Gameplay

The game plays similarly to After Burner II with some mechanical additions, the most prominent of which is the "Climax Mode". When the Climax bar is filled, players are able to slow time and gain a much larger targeting reticule by pushing the throttle to its maximum. The player also gains an armor meter, which allows the player to take multiple hits before losing a life. Other new game features include a combo-based scoring system, an indoor stage, a limited branching path progression structure and a pre-game choice of aircraft.

Additionally, the game includes a Team Play Mode for linked cabinets. In this mode players team up to fight the enemy, with a winner being declared at the end of each round based on the score achieved during the stage.

Versions

Cabinet variants

The arcade version of After Burner Climax was made available in three types of cabinet. The standard version is a sit-down cabinet with no motion features. The standard motion model provides side-to-side motion, and an optional display housing is available for linked units. The deluxe motion model tilts to provide motion in all directions, and is fitted with a widescreen, high definition LCD monitor rather than the standard definition CRT monitors of the other models.
