Chieko Aoki, also known by the aliases Chiemushi and Otegami Chie (lit. "Letter Chie") for her reputation of responding to fan letters, is a Japanese game designer and former Sega of Japan director, writer, and story designer, most known for her work in producing much of the story, setting, and design for Sega's flagship Phantasy Star franchise.

Career

Aoki played an important role at Sega in the Sega Master System and early Mega Drive days, serving as an assistant on Phantasy Star and then taking on much larger duties as the director and scriptwriter for Phantasy Star II. By 1993, Aoki had left Sega, though it is possible that she later returned to Sega as Chieko Nakamura, who is listed in the Special Thanks section of Phantasy Star IV's credits alongside other important series alumni like Phantasy Star director and scriptwriterKotaro Hayashida.
