While the two games are reasonably close to their arcade counterparts, there have been a number of minor changes. In Gunblade NY for example, banners for Coca-Cola, CSK, JVC and FujiFilm have been replaced with advertisements for fake or Sega-owned properties, such as Sonic and the Black Knight (which was released in 2009, while the game takes place in 2005). The original release of Gunblade NY also featured a relatively-accurate New York City skyline which included the twin towers of the World Trade Center. For the Wii release, these towers were removed due to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks which felled them.

Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns is a compilation for the Wii containing the 1995 Sega Model 2 game Gunblade NY and the 1998 Sega Model 3 game LA Machineguns, each adapted to use the Wii Remote. It was released in August 2010, and marks the first time these two games have been released on home consoles.

A soundtrack album was released the following year, Gunblade NY & L.A. Machineguns Original Soundtrack.
