At its core, Loretta no Shouzou is an SG-1000 game (making it the last official Japanese release of its kind), however its late release in 1987 meant it was packaged and advertised as a Gold Cartridge (the branding used for first-party Mark III/Master System cartridges released in Japan). At 128kB in size, it would be the biggest SG-1000 game, and its packaging design, paired with the fact Sega's hardware archive lists the game for both consoles, has led to much confusion as to whether it should be classed as either an SG-1000 release, a Mark III/Master System one, or both.

Loretta no Shouzou is notable for being not only the final cartridge release for the SG-1000 (with The Black Onyx released a month later serving as the final My Card release and final SG-1000 game in general), but also the largest SG-1000 game ever, with a ROM size of 128kB or 1-Megabit. As a result, it was released under the Gold Cartridge branding usually reserved for Sega Mark III cartridges (which were meant for games exceeding 1-Megabit size) instead of the Sega Cartridge branding used for The Castle (the last SG-1000 cartridge release prior to this). Sega's hardware archive list Loretta no Shouzou as both, an SG/SC Cartridge and a Gold Cartridge.

Subtle differences in the packaging (the use of a blue "1Mb" logo and manual (a colour often associated with the the SG-1000, SG-1000 II and SC-3000) as opposed to red (Mark III)) and the specific mentioning of older Sega consoles has led Sega Retro to class this as an SG-1000 release. Its product code, however, lies in the G-13XX series, usually associated with Mark III games.

The game's packaging follows the same template as other Gold Cartridge releases, but has a blue 1M logo and a blue manual, instead of the red theme usually associated with Mark III releases.

Loretta no Shouzou: Sherlock Holmes (ロレッタの肖像 Sherlock Holmes) is an adventure game developed and published by Sega exclusively in Japan in 1987.

The game's packaging follows the same template as other Gold Cartridge releases, but has a blue 1M logo and a blue manual, instead of the red theme usually associated with Mark III releases.
