Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a Sega Saturn fighting game compilation developed by Point of View, featuring the first three entries in Midway Games' popular Mortal Kombat series of arcade fighters. First published in the United States by Midway Home Entertainment in August 1997, the game was later published in Europe and Brazil by GT Interactive Software in April 1998.
Only three weeks after the release of the Sega Saturn version, developer Point of View ported the game to Windows PCs.

Gameplay
Fighters
Mortal Kombat Trilogy essentially adds any fighters from Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II which were missing in the previous release, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (including the boss characters, which are available to play from the start). Until the release of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in 2006, this was the largest roster of fighters ever seen in a Mortal Kombat game.
While the graphics for the returning fighters are partially updated (save for Johnny Cage who has an entirely new actor play the character), the bulk of their assets come from the older games, so don't quite mix as well visually as the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 additions.
By pressing START when hovering over Kano, Raiden, Jax or Kung Lao, "classic" versions of the characters can be selected[4]. This means Kano and Raiden have similar sprites and moves to the original Mortal Kombat, while Jax and Kung Lao have theirs from Mortal Kombat II.

History
The Sega Saturn port, handled by Point of View is a direct port of the PlayStation version, released a full year later. It is said to be slightly inferior as it lacks many of the transparency effects and several voice samples. It is still considered to be a better version than its Nintendo 64 counterpart, however, which due to cartridge restraints had to axe several important features.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy saw many positive reviews though has been criticised for its many glitches and extreme difficulty.
Release in Germany
Like the previous games, Mortal Kombat Trilogy was banned. Most games in the series were unbanned in 2005 except this one.
