Sega Consumer Research and Development Dept. #1 (Sega CS1) was a video game research and development division within Sega. As the name suggests, it was the first "consumer"-specific R&D department created by Sega of Japan. This page compiles all games made by staff to have confirmed programmers, planners and designers working on Sega games during the eighties until the mid nineties. As well as games that have executive management by Mamoru Shigeta, Yoji Ishii, Makoto Oshitani, Koichi Nagata and Noriyoshi Ohba who have frequently collaborated during the nineties. By April 1996, Noriyoshi Ohba established his own department, CS2.

The studio garnered various members from people who worked on Panzer Dragoon, sports games, 32X titles, and also developers who worked on 8-Bit conversion of titles for the Master System and Game Gear.

Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD are exepmt on this list due to the "Sonic Team presents..." on the Japanese packing, as well as seperate managing producers Shinobu Toyoda and Masaharu Yoshii. Like Ohba, Yuji Naka opened his own division as Sonic Team, with the corporate name of CS3.
+
In May 1999, all of Sega's internal development divisions were renamed, with CS1 becoming Sega Software R&D Dept. 6. During this transition, many developers left Sega to join the new start-ups Artoon and Land Ho!.

CS1 itself became Sega Software Department #6 (in 2000 Smilebit) in May 1998.

Sega Consumer Research and Development Dept. #1 (Sega CS1) was a video game research and development division within Sega. As the name suggests, it was the first "consumer"-specific R&D department created by Sega of Japan. It was officially founded in April 1996 and headed by Makoto Oshitani.[1].

The studio garnered various members from people who worked on Panzer Dragoon, sports games, 32X titles, and also developers who worked on 8-Bit conversion of titles for the Master System and Game Gear.

In May 1999, all of Sega's internal development divisions were renamed, with CS1 becoming Sega Software R&D Dept. 6. During this transition, many developers left Sega to join the new start-ups Artoon and Land Ho!.
