Sega CS2 has it's roots as R&D2 in the eighties, it was the first department established specifically to produce console games.

This page compiles all games made by staff to have confirmed producers, programmers, planners and designers working on Sega games during the eighties until the mid nineties, as well as the games produced by CS2 since 1996. By April 1996, Sega employed the system of it's AM department, by spunning off three seperate CS R&D departments.

In May 1999, all of Sega's internal development divisions were renamed, with CS2 becoming [[Sega Software R&D Dept. 7]]{{ref|http://web.archive.org/web/20010819183520/http://www.o-works.co.jp/game/softhistory.html}}.

Sega Consumer Research and Development Dept. #2 (Sega CS2) was a video game research and development division within Sega. As the name suggests, it was the second "consumer"-specific R&D department created by Sega of Japan, originally to assist in the creation of Sega Saturn titles. It was officially founded in April 1996 and headed by Noriyoshi Oba[1][2].

In May 1999, all of Sega's internal development divisions were renamed, with CS2 becoming Sega Software R&D Dept. 7[2].
