Yasuhito Baba (馬場保仁) is the founded of developer Farrier and a former producer at Sega, involved with the Let's Make Baseball, Let's Make Soccer and Super Monkey Ball series.

Career

Yasuhito Baba joined Sega Enterprises in 1997 as a game designer for sports-focused developer CS1, his first work being J.League Victory Goal '97 for Sega Saturn^[4]. He was promoted to director in 2003^[5], having served as both director and game designer for Pro Yakyuu Team o Tsukurou! Advance the previous year. For J.League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 5, he wrote a blog on the game's website^[6]. He became an evangelist for Yakyuu Tsuku series during its era of the Nintendo DS and was nicknamed Yakyuu Tsuku★Bancho (野球つく★番長)^[7]^[8].

Following restructures in 2008 which merged Sega Sports Design R&D Dept. and New Entertainment R&D Dept. to form CS R&D Dept.# 1, Baba instead began producing NE's premier franchises with the new installments Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll, Super Monkey Ball 3D and Yakuza: Dead Souls, titles meant to appeal to a Western audience^[4]. He also co-wrote the book Game no Kyoukasho with Takamitsu Yamamoto, which covers various video game development secrets to aid up-and-coming professional game developers^[9].

Following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Yasuhito Baba contemplated his morality and what he wanted to do in his lifetime. He wanted to begin making games for smartphones, a market Sega was at that point not tapped into. He changed companies to work for DeNA, where he was required to make quick decisions 4 times as fast as he was at Sega. He was most notably the organizer behind HEAT, a job hunting event which connects over 1000 students to various video game companies^[10], which Baba organized in just 2 months^[4]. He left DeNA to focus on his career searching for new talented game developers, focusing on both game development and human sources. He founded the company Farrier in on July 28, 2016^[11].

Personal details

Yasuhito Baba enjoys horseback riding^[1] and baseball^[12]^[13]. One of his favourite foods is curry, and he has reportedly eaten at up to 200 different curry restaurants^[1].
