Dragon Wang (ドラゴン・ワン) is an action game for the SG-1000. It is the prequel to Kung Fu Kid for the Sega Master System.
Story
The kung fu master Dragon Wang (ドラゴン・ワン) must rescue his love, Kyoko (キョーコ), from the Castle of Evil (邪悪の城).
Gameplay
The game is a beat-'em-up. Wang must search for keys in each round, which are defended by bosses. The round ends once Wang has defeated all of the bosses and collected all of the keys. There are four rounds total, with Wang facing all of the bosses of the previous rounds plus one new boss in each round. The final round repeats infinitely after it is completed, so the game has no ending.
Wang moves with and , crouches with , and jumps with . Wang can kick while standing, crouching, or jumping. He jumps especially high to reach upper platforms when he stands in between a gap in the platform. He attacks by kicking with or . Regular foes are dispatched by a single kick, but bosses have health bars and require multiple hits. Sometimes walls appear that can be destroyed by kicking them.
Wang has a health meter that goes down as he takes damage from foes. Picking up a key fully replenishes his health. He loses a life if he loses his entire health meter, and the game ends if he runs out of lives. The player gains an extra life at 50,000 points. Each stage is timed, and the player also loses a life if time runs out.
