Mega Drive version
Random select
Highlight Liu Kang (or Reptile if player two) and hold while pressing START , and the game will select a random character for the respective player to play as.
Test modes
Go to the options screen, highlight "DONE!" and press . This will enable the "Test modes" option, allowing the player to tweak various game settings[1].
Fight Smoke
When Dan Forden shouts "Toasty!" in the portal stage, press + START .
Fight Jade
In the match before the "?" fight, defeat your opponent using only the low kick button.
Fight Noob Saibot
Win 25 two-player matches in a row.
Fergality
From the hidden "Test Modes" menu, enable the option "Oooh, Nasty!". Then, after defeating any opponent on The Armory while playing as Rayden, enter BL when prompted for a Fatality. The losing fighter will be transformed into the digitized head of Probe Software founder Fergus McGovern - the Fergus Head.
32X version

Switches
During the story sequence press (DULLARD BYC). This will add a "switches..." option to the main menu, which can be used to toggle most things in the game.
Fight Smoke
When Dan Forden shouts "Toasty!" in the portal stage, press + START . If you enable the 'Easy Smoke' option in the 'Switches' menu, the code can be performed on any stage.
Fight Jade
In the match before the "?" fight, defeat your opponent using only the low kick button. If you enable the 'Easy Jade' option in the 'Switches' menu, winning a round with low kick against any CPU opponent will trigger the fight.
Fight Noob Saibot
Win 25 two-player matches in a row. If you enable the 'Noob' option in the 'Switches' menu, you only need to win a single two-player round to trigger the battle.
