Sega and Swatch Realize "Internet & Wearable" by RFID technology

February 24, 2000-Sega Enterprises, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan and SWATCH, A.G., Biel, Switzerland the leading Swiss watch brand and inventor of Swatch Internet Time (measured in Swatch beats) today formally agreed to team up to develop ideas under the key concept, "Access to Cyberspace." According to the agreement, the two companies will develop a revolutionary new service by "Internet & Wearable" technology which synchronizes "Swatch Access" with built-in RFID (contactless memory chip) with "Dreamcast."

Swatch Access, which is a thinking watch with built-in RFID (contactless memory chip) includes a memory with read & write function in it and enables the exchange of integrated data with an external certification data without contact between the two objects.

At this time, both companies officially opened to the public world first that the adapter of Swatch Access connected Dreamcast can immediately read the data incorporated in it and access to the indicated Internet site by only shading Swatch Access.

Swatch Access can read the data from various kinds of sites on Dreamcast via Internet and write into Swatch Access.

Swatch Access technology is already available worldwide and has already been used as a ski pass in 500 ski resorts through 30 countries and as a city pass allowing access to places of interest like museums, public transport and leisure facilities.

In future, Sega Enterprises, Ltd. and SWATCH, A.G. will offer an innovative experience for Internet access users by Dreamcast and the Swatch Access, watches that "think" with integrated RFID.
