Out of bounds with Amy

Amy's turbo boost can be exploited to clip through the geometry in specific places of the courses. To do this, the player has to drive into a specific corner, then perform a turbo boost while steering towards a specific direction depending on the location. The timing is tricky, but if performed right Amy will be propelled through the course geometry and end up out of bounds. This can be exploited to take massive shortcuts using Amy. The places she can do this are:

  • In Resort Island, by boosting into the rock before the loop-de-loop and slightly veering to the right.
  • In Radical City, by driving into the post on the right of the starting line and slightly veering to the left.
  • In Radiant Emerald, by driving into the post on the right of the starting line and slightly veering to the right.

Not fixed in any version.

Crouch on springs

SonicR Saturn Bug CrouchOnSprings.png

When playing as a character who can crouch (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Super Sonic), jump on top of a spring, and while airborne hold Down. When the character lands on the spring again, they'll crouch on the spring, resulting in the spring sound playing repeatedly, and will only bounce again once Down has been let go. The player can even charge a Spin Dash in this state.

This cannot be done on the spring in Radical City's pinball area, as its surface is uneven.

Level-specific bugs

Resort Island

Out of bounds with any character

Get behind the waterfall here.

Then, walk into this cliff face...

...to clip through it.

Be free.

By walking into a specific part of the wall behind the waterfall as shown in the screenshots above, it is possible to clip through the wall and go out of bounds. The player can then explore outside the boundaries of the course, and can also exploit this for a faster lap. It can also be used to go inside the tunnels that are locked behind Ring Gates, but doing so is not recommended as it will be impossible for the player to leave if they do not have enough Rings to open the gates.

This can be done with any character in the game.

Not fixed in any version.

Radical City

Out of bounds with Sonic

Stand in this spot.

Then do a Double Jump...

Voilá!
SonicR Saturn Bug RadicalCity OutOfBounds 4.png
You can now freely explore the city!

As either Sonic or Super Sonic, stand at a specific spot under where the 50-Ring Gate path ends in the casino area, and perform a Double Jump. If done correctly, Sonic/Super Sonic will successfully reach the path from its exit, allowing him to collect the purple Chaos Emerald without having to open the Ring Gate. Alternatively, upon landing on the edge the player can steer left to fall out of bounds and allow them to explore freely around the city, or to run circles underneath the starting line to achieve lap times as low as under four seconds.

Not fixed in any version.

Regal Ruin

Out of bounds with any character

Open the 20-Ring Gate that leads to the orange Chaos Emerald and double loop-de-loop, and run into the wall on the staircase as shown above to clip through and go out of bounds. Compared to other out-of-bounds bugs this isn't very useful due to the abundance of water (unless it is snowing in the PC and Sonic Gems Collection versions, as the water will be frozen) and the potential the clip back onto the track if the player attempts to go under it.

This can be done with any character in the game.

Not fixed in any version.
