The game is remarked to have made some improvements on previous Game Gear Sonic titles, but still not great and very inappropriate for the console, with the movement being far too fast for the small screen. Game beginner girl 青山ようこ recommends playing at a slower pace and making use of the new items. Foreign game user OLIX光治 thinks it does the best it can to take advantage of GG-exclusive gimmicks. The game is easy, but something feels lacking. Game mania group ハイローラーズ's ロ mentions some interesting ideas it has, and that the bosses are improved, but is bothered by the acceleration physics. General game user ジャムおじさん says there are issues with balancing and maps devoid of enemies, but the game is fine overall.
