Sítio do Picapau Amarelo is a platform game developed and published by Tectoy for the Sega Master System, released exclusively in Brazil. The name and characters come from a brazilian novel series, created by Monteiro Lobato and published between 1920 and 1940. If Tectoy had previously honored one of the greatest authors of brazilian children's comics, Maurício de Sousa, this time the idea was to do the same with the greatest writer of children's stories from Brazil.
Besides the books, many TV shows and movies, under different names, were exhibited since 1951 until now-a-days, making Sítio do Picapau Amarelo one of the greatest classics in Brazil, commonly considered equivalent to the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz series, for the brazilian audience. Tectoy bet on that popularity when they decided to develop the game but their plan wasn't successful this time, because the game was published when the console was in a big decline and losing market to several other consoles.
