Radica Games Limited is a company that produces electronic games, currently owned by Mattel, Inc. (NYSE:MAT), who announced the acquisition completion of Radica on October 3, 2006. Radica was originally founded in 1983. It began by producing electronic souvenir games for casinos. In the late 1990s, it became famous for its Bass Fishin line of games. While Radica still produces many electronic handheld games based on casino or card games, it has also branched out into other types of toys, board games, and video game accessories.
In 1999, Radica games employed the services of famous designer Allen Michalik. Allen went on to design such titles as Skannerz and Metronix. Metronix never made it to market which later proved to be a major mistake by the company.
Their "Play TV Legends" brand re-releases classic games from Sega and popular vintage franchises like Space Invaders and Tetris on small, handheld controllers. Sonic-based titles in this series include the Play TV Legends Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Volume 1 and Volume 2, and Super Sonic Gold.
Their newest product is U.B. Funkeys.
