This short article is in need of work. You can help Sega Retro by adding to it.
Mystic Defender is an action game for the Sega Mega Drive. In Korea it was named On Dal Jang Goon (온달장군) and some character graphics were changed. In Brazil it is known as Mystic Defense.
It is a reskin of Kujaku Ou 2: Geneijou, a game based on the Kujaku Ou manga series.
Contents
Story
Zareth, the henchman of the evil king Zao, kidnaps the Supreme Deity's daughter to use her power to resurrect Zao. You are Joe Yamato, a magician and warrior who goes out to save her and stop Zareth.
Gameplay
jumps. By default, fires a magic ball; hold down to charge a ball. Throughout the course of the game, you collect new spells; changes spells and uses them, complete with charging ability (some such as the flamethrower require charging).
According to the US manual, round 6 is meant to be infested with ghosts, however these were seemingly scrapped in the final game[7].
Versions
As with its predecessor, Kujakuou 2: Geneijou is based on the Japanese manga series Kujakuou. During its transition to the West, the majority of Kujakuou references were removed, although the basic plot remains the same.
Lead character Kujaku (as Joe Yamato) sports an entirely new outfit in Mystic Defender, and parts of the game were lightly censored for Western markets. Changes include turning some pink flesh-coloured enemies green and giving the Supreme Deity's daughter some clothes to wear in the final scenes of the game.
