Story and Premise
Taking place in an alternative future, Mobile Suit Gundam takes place during year of Universal Century 0079.
In an era of space colonization and exploration, humanity has reached beyond the confines of the planet Earth. Earth Federation, which rules the planet and other space colonies maintains a tight control over the colonies due to the fact that humanity's home is suffering from material shortages.
Side 3, the farthest colony from the Earth, angry over the unfair demands of the Earth Federation, rebels and reborns as Principality of Zeon, a powerful and technologically advanced nation with the intent of maintaining its independence any means necessary. Gihren Zabi, commander of the Zeon's armed forces is not content with simply independence however, and begins preparing for full-scale invasion of the Earth.
Animosity between two sides finally reach a breaking point and war begins on January 1, UC0079. Armed with "Mobile Suits", large and powerful anthromorphic combat vehicles, Zeon inflicts massive damage to Federation Fleet and proceeds into invasion of Earth. Even though Zeon seems to be in the lead, it is clear that they also suffered serious losses that cannot be replaced easily, unlike Federation.
A short ceasefire is declared as both sides lick their wounds. Game begins after the "Antartic Treaty" which bans the use of WMD on Earth over the course of the conflict.
Gameplay
Players will takes control of either Prinicipality of Zeon or Earth Federation Space Forces and attempt to gain supremacy among the "Earth Sphere" (a term which includes Earth, Moon, and La Grange points) using technology, economy and military power. During the course of the game, players can live through famous battles or storylines from the original series.
Over the course of the game, players must not only maintain relations with neutral countries (Granada City on Moon or other independent space colonies) and their own military industry but also placate the parliament of their selected faction: If war effort suffers considerable sidebacks, an anti-war movement will begin to form. If defeats continue, parliament will sue for peace, ending the game prematurely.
Completing the game unlock new factions and scenarios that are not considered canon.

---|---|

Originally formed as republic, named after its independence leader, Zeon Zum Daikun, the country reverted to a despotic monarchy under the Zabi family, after Daikun died under suspicious circumstances. (Read: Assassinated by Zabis) All members of the Zabi family hold high-ranking positions in the Zeon armed forces and government: Degwin Zabi as the Sovereign of the nation, titular character Gihren Zabi is the commander of the armed forces, Dozul Zabi is the commander of the Space Attack Forces, Kycillia Zabi as the commander of the Mobile Attack Forces and youngest son Garma Zabi is the commander of the Earth Occupation Forces.
