Designer: Ricoh

The RF5C164 is a sound chip made by Ricoh. It is capable of playing 8 channels of 8-bit PCM audio simultaneously. It is used by the Sega Mega CD.

A similar (but not identical) sound chip to the RF5C164 was the RF5c68, notably used in the Fujitsu FM Towns series of computers and on Sega's System 18 and System 32 arcade system boards. This chip is used concurrently with the YM2612, borrowed from the Sega Mega Drive.
