The official SCART Cable for the Sega Mega Drive is a connector cable allowing a Mega Drive to transmit picture information to a television via the SCART standard. There were two official SCART cables released for the Mega Drive 2. They are thought to have only been released in Europe where SCART was the most common.
The first cable has the model number MK-1637, and has a connector shaped similar to the official Sega Saturn RGB cable. This version often outputs both audio buzz and video interference to the screen. The second cable (MK-10021) is longer and is shaped like a standard SCART plug at the end. There is no audio buzz or video interference when using this cable. Unfortunately, this cable can be hard to distinguish from a third-party cable, since there is no Sega branding on the cable itself.
These official SCART cables do not appear to have been manufactured in large numbers, with third-party alternatives being far more common today. There is no official variant for most original model Mega Drives, but there was an official SCART cable bundled with the French Mega Drive. However, this cable only outputs video when used with the French Mega Drive, though there are modifications available to enable video output with other Mega Drives. Again, third-party cables fulfilling this role for non-French Mega Drives are not uncommon.
