Zoom 909 (ズーム909) is an arcade game developed by Sega Enterprises, Ltd. for VCO Object arcade hardware. It was released worldwide in 1982, however after obtaining a license for Buck Rogers, western versions of the game became known as Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom. Both Zoom 909 and Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom are largely the same game minus some minor graphical differences.

Though most home ports of the game are based on Planet of Zoom, Zoom 909 was brought to the Japanese MSX in 1983 and SG-1000 in 1985. These versions take more liberties with the formula, introducing a top-down stage as level 3.

Gameplay

Stages (SG-1000/MSX version)

Valley of Planets (惑星の谷)[4]
A 3D stage with walls on either side. In addition to enemies, energy barriers can pop up which must be avoided.
Planet Wilderness (惑星原野)[4]
A 3D stage set in the wilds of space.
Zero Gravity Space (無重力空間)[4]
A top-down stage which doesn't appear in the arcade version, allowing for rotation in 8 directions but no vertical movement. It contains an invincibility power-up.
Enemy Command Ship Agora Appears (敵司令艦アゴラ出現)[4]
A 3D boss fight against Agora. To defeat Agora, the players must fire at its center 5 times. This is easier if its 4 engines are destroyed, rendering it immobile. Agora will leave if not defeated soon enough, in which case the player will not get the bonus 3000 points for defeating it.
