Art Alive! (アートアライブ) is a Sega Mega Drive paint program developed by Western Technologies and published by Sega. Released in 1991 to mostly warm reception, it was an early attempt to expand the 16-bit platform with non-game software, and would be largely overshadowed by Mario Paint one year later.

A spiritual successor, Wacky Worlds, was released in late 1994.

Gameplay

Starting with a blank canvas, players are given various paint and drawing tools to create their art, like numerous brushes, a spraycan, and a fill tool. Shapes and patterns can be utilized as well. Stamps of Sonic the Hedgehog, ToeJam & Earl, and others can be placed on the canvas and further animated.

Art Alive! lacks the capability to save images to the cartridge. The game’s manual advises players to record their creations to a VHS tape.[9]
