A lawsuit between EA and ESPN meant that EASN branding was replaced with EA Sports in 1993. The Japanese version, released later, reflects this change in the introduction.

More EASN references were replaced in the menus, and the palette was altered. There are also minor formatting changes with the instructions and "Minutes" has been shortened to "Min".

Commentator Bing Gordon has been replaced by Ron Barr in the Japanese version, and the text is in Japanese.

Court-side EASN logos were also changed. The scoreboard positions of the teams are also swapped around.
