The SG-1000 was launched in the summer of 1983, so Sega made sure to pump the console full of high quality titles in the first few months of sale. The majority of these games are Sega arcade ports from the late 1970s and early 1980s, though there were also many brand new games engineered by Sega for the console. Sega also licensed games from third-parties, such as Jaleco's Exerion and Namco's Galaga (or Sega Galaga).

Almost all SG-1000 games from 1983 were released internationally, or rather, the markets which Sega supported (Australia, New Zealand, France (and other smaller European markets) and Taiwan).
