Digital Monster Ver. S Digimon Tamers (japanese: デジタルモンスターVer.S デジモンテイマーズ) is a Sega Saturn simulation game.

Gameplay

The game play is basically a recreation of the LCD virtual pets, except that the player can have multiple Digimon at one time. Interactions involve raising a Digimon from birth, feeding it, praising it, scolding it, and training it to increase stats.

Although the game has no online capability itself, the environment in which the game takes place is a simulated PC desktop. Players maintain their pet through a program window which can be minimized or maximized. You can also access a virtual Digimon internet community. Among the pages included for instance are a News page and a forum which is updated over time with new posts (often including hints or links). By obtaining links, you can type in a URL in the address bar to access a location which may allow the user to download an item, battle, or explore. You can also link up with other NPC trainers, or even participate in the adventure scenarios which involve battling against the hackers (the main antagonists) for medals. The mockup PC interface made the game appropriate for the Shuttle Mouse accessory, which it supports.

History

This was actually the first game to be based on the popular Digimon franchise, and besides its Bandai WonderSwan counterpart, the only Digimon game to resemble the Bandai's LCD toys from which the franchise was born.

Both Digimon and the earlier Tamagotchi franchise were produced by Bandai. Being based on a similar concept by the same manufacturer, it is therefore similar to the Tamagotchi video games. Not surprisingly, Bandai did release a Saturn entry for Tamagotchi, titled Sega Saturn de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Park, as a compliment to Digital Monster Ver. S.
