The KW-500 is an unlicensed clone of the Sega Mega Drive. Assumed to be manufactured in Taiwan and first seen in the early 1990s, it spread across Asia and South America under many different guises, becoming one of the more common unlicensed variants of the console.

From a first glance, KW-500s are typically identical to the a standard 1988 Japanese Mega Drive console, but with the "Mega Drive" and "Sega" text removed from the bottom right hand corner of the unit. Internally it is also very similar, and the existence of the expansion slot means it may be compatible with the Sega Mega-CD.

"Successors" exist in the KW-501 and KW-502, which usually adopted different (unique) plastic shells. There is some confusion, however, as these later shells have also been used in conjunction with KW-500 product codes. Some of the consoles based on KW-503 have KW-500 label.
