Kidou Senshi Gundam: Renpou vs. Zeon DX (機動戦士ガンダム連邦vs.ジオンDX) is an action game developed by Capcom and published by Banpresto for the Sega NAOMI arcade platform. It is an update to Kidou Senshi Gundam: Renpou vs. Zeon and released on the Dreamcast as part of Kidou Senshi Gundam: Renpou vs. Zeon & DX.

This new update adds a single-player campaign mode and a few new mobile suits for Federation. In campaign mode, players will take control of a nameless Federation or Zeon pilot and fight all major battles and some minor ones until the famous battle of A Baoa Qu. Some characters from the Mobile Suit Gundam series will make cameos during the game.

Gameplay

Mobile Suits / Mobile Armor

Earth Federation

Notavailable.svg

RX-75 Guntank (Ground and Space)
First mobile suit created by Federation's top secret "Project V", Guntank is a hybrid of a large tank and a mobile suit. Its shoulder mounted cannons can dish out some serious long-range firepower. Unlike other cannon equipped mobile suits, Guntank can fire its shells over obstaceles, giving it excellent accuracy. While it has a very tough armor, Guntank has very limited maneuvrability and its main gun fires rather slowly. Keep the enemy away from close combat. Guntank has no melee weapons and its secondary weapon, a pair of hand mounted 4-barrel rocket launchers has limited damage and ammunition.

Strangely it can be used in zero-gravity enviroments even though in the original series, this was not possible due to lack of legs.

Notavailable.svg

RX-77-2 Guncannon (Ground and Space)
Second Mobile Suit created by Federation's "Project V", Guncannon is a true mobile suit designed for mid-range artillery support. While somewhat faster and well armored, Guntank carries no shield and has average mobility. Guncannon carries a Beam Sniper Gun with a good range and power. Secondary weapons are a pair of 280mm shoulder mounted cannons. These cannons lack the range and firepower of Guntank's massive artillery weapons but fire much faster and more accurate. Guncannon uses its hand and feet for melee combat so it is somewhat fares better in close combat than Guntank.

RX-78-2 Gundam (Ground and Space)
This high performance mobile suit is the final product of Federation's "Project V". Powered by a fusion reactor, a beam rifle can project firepower close to a battleship, multitude of weapons for both close and ranged combat, Gundam is the Federation's trump card against the Zeon's aggression.

Gundam is arguably most versatile and powerful unit in the game. Multiple weapon options provide a unique gameplay experience while high speed, maneuvrability high health and a durable shield will allow Gundam to remain in combat for a long time.

  • Beam Rifle: A fast firing and long range beam rifle.
  • Hyper Bazooka: Slow projectile speed and accuracy but has excellent range and firepower.
  • Gundam Hammer: Short ranged but extremely powerful melee weapon. Hold button to swing the hammer like a flail and deflect projectiles.
  • 60mm Head Vulcans: Secondary weapon. Mostly useless except finishing low health enemies at the close range.
  • Beam Sabers: Melee weapons. Faster and more damaging than most melee weapons in the game. If shield is destroyed, Gundam will pull out secondary saber and gain access to more powerful attacks.

Notavailable.svg

RGM-79 GM (Ground and Space)
First truly mass produced mobile suit of the Federation Forces, GM is cheap and affordable but lacks the capabilities of both Federation or Zeon advanced mobile suits. Its cheap cost and ease to produce nevertheless allowed Federation to produce hundreds of these units to flood and eventually overcome Zeon forces.
  • Beam Spray Gun: Weak but has a good range and fast.
  • Beam Sabers: GM can protect itself much better than both Guntank and Guncannon but not as well as other Gundams.
  • 60mm Head Vulcans: Not much but better than nothing.
  • Shield: Weak but large and good coverage.

Notavailable.svg

RX-79[G] Gundam Mass Production Ground Combat Type (Ground Only)
A mobile suit added to the previous game.

This mass produced variant of Gundam is designed for ground combat. While it is much more durable than RX-78-2 and carry more weapons, it is slower and has no space combat capabilities.

  • 100mm Machinegun: Rapid firing machinegun. Weak but fires quickly. Can be reloaded.
  • Beam Rifle: Weaker than RX-78-2's rifle but still packs quite a punch.
  • Rocket Launcher: Similar to RX-78-2's bazooka but somewhat weaker.
  • Missile Launcher: Fires small missiles in a quick volley. Weak but has good range and accuracy.
  • 180mm Cannon: Slow firing but accurate and has good range. Good firepower.
  • 12.7mm Chest Vulcan: Same as RX-78-2's head vulcans. Limited Use.
  • Beam Saber: While not as potent as RX-78-2, RX-79 is still a formidable close quarters combatant.
  • Shield: RX-79's shield is somewhat smaller and less durable.

Notavailable.svg

RGM-79[G] GM Ground Combat Type (Ground Only)
A mobile suit added to the previous game.

This is the specialized variant of GM produced for ground combat only. Removal of space thrusters allowed additional armor and structural integrity at the cost of mobility and lack of space combat performance.

  • 100mm Machinegun: See RX-79
  • Beam Rifle: Less powerful due to smaller power plant but gets the job done.
  • Missile Launcher: See RX-79
  • No Secondary Weapon
  • Beam Sabers: Limited combos but works fine.
  • Shield: See RX-79

Notavailable.svg

RB-79 Ball (Space Only)
A mobile suit added to the previous game.

This unit was originally designed as an enclosed pod for space constuction. Lack of anything to use against Zeon during the first weeks of the war forced Federation to install a single 120mm cannon at the top these crafts and use them as mobile fire support platforms. Their chances of survival in actualy combat is rather limited.

  • 120mm Cannon: Only use from distance. Limited power.
  • Claws: It is not recommended to enter melee combat with ball.

Principality of Zeon

Notavailable.svg

MS-05B Zaku I (Ground and Space)
First true mobile suit ever designed in the history, Zaku I is a lighter and leaner version of its successor Zaku II. While it can wreak havoc against all non-mobile suit targets, Zaku I is no longer used as a frontline unit for Zeon and completely replaced by Zaku II. Besides training, only some more venerable pilots and rear area unit use this obsolete unit.
  • 100mm Machinegun: Looks different than Federation version but performance is more or less same. Cannot be manually reloaded.
  • Bazooka: Long Range and better firepower. Slow projectile speed.
  • Heat Axe: A decent close combat weapon.
  • Cracker Grenades: Short range but has some blast radius.
  • No Shield.

Notavailable.svg

MS-06F Zaku II (Ground and Space)
First mass produced mobile suit ever used in combat, Zaku II's excellent mobility allowed Zeon to invade the Earth destroy Federation's once unstoppable naval power. Arguable even more popular than the titular Gundam, this masterpiece can be considered soul of Zeon.
  • 120mm Machinegun: Somewhat better than Zaku I's main weapon.
  • Bazooka: See Above
  • Heat Axe: Zaku II is much better in melee combat than its predecessor.
  • Cracker Grenades: See Above
  • Shoulder Shield: Very limited coverage but better than nothing. Left shoulder only.

Notavailable.svg

MS-06S Zaku II Commander Type - Char Aznable Custom (Ground and Space)
A special variant of Zaku II has been designed for squadron leaders and other talented pilots. Additional thrusters and improved consturction gives these units much better speed and maneuvrability. Lieutenant Commander Char Aznable uses a Zaku II Commander Type with dark red paint scheme.

Commander Type Zaku II is more or less identical to regular Zaku II except it has much better stats and much more faster. Attack animations are kind of different as well.

Notavailable.svg

MS-07B Gouf (Ground Only)
Designed for close quarters combat, Gouf's lack of space combat performance and limited ranged weapons prevented it from entering mass production despite having much higher performance than Zaku II. Completed units were handed over to several squad leaders and other talented pilots. This particular unit was piloted by Lieutenant Ramba Ral, Zeon's foremost expert in guerilla warfare.
  • Finger machineguns: Limited range and firepower.
  • Heat Whip: Short ranged but powerful whip with electrical power. Lethal at close range.
  • Heat Saber: Gouf is one of the few units in the game with a three hit melee combo. Very powerful.
  • Shield: Good coverage and durable.

Notavailable.svg

MS-09 Dom (Ground Only)
A high performance mobile suit designed to replace Zaku II's in the field, Dom is an excellent unit with formidable speed and combat performance. Personally tested by Zeon's elite pilots "Black Tri-Stars", Dom carries the dark purple/black paint scheme of their test pilots.

This variant designed for combat in atmospheric conditions.

  • Dom Bazooka: Much more accurate compared to the other bazookas in the game. Decent firepower too.
  • Flash Disperser: Only effective at point blank range. Stuns enemy if hits. Not very useful.
  • Heat Rod: Fast and powerful melee weapon with three hit combo. Very good.
  • No Shield.

Notavailable.svg

MS-09R Rick-Dom
Space combat variant of Dom. It is identical to regular Dom in every aspect.

Notavailable.svg

MS-14A Gelgoog
This excellent high performance mobile suit was specifically designed to defeat Federation's Gundam type mobile suits. Unfortunately for Zeon, Gelgoog's appearance did not change the outcome of the war for Zeon as by the time it entered service, due to lack of veteran pilots (most of them were dead) Gelgoogs were piloted by rookie pilots with no experience and limited training. High production costs did not help either. Those which were piloted by aces however, inflicted significant damage to Federation forces during the last days of the war.
  • Beam Rifle: As powerful as Gundam's own beam rifle.
  • Beam Naginata: Can slice through pretty much everything.
  • Naginata Spin: Holding the button will make Gelgood to spin the naginata in place, stopping projectiles.
  • Shield: Gelgoog's unwieldly shield is kept at the back of the unit. At least it can offer protection from the back.

Notavailable.svg

YMS-14S Gelgoog Commander Type (Char Aznable Custom)
Protoype variants of MS-14 did not enter mass production as they were even more expensive than production type Gelgoogs. Completed units were handed over to ace pilots and squadron commanders. This variant used by Captain Char Aznable painted in his trademark dark red paint scheme.

It is the only weapon in Zeon's arsenal that can go toe-to-toe with Gundam. Besides much higher stats and different paint job it is identical to MS-14.

Notavailable.svg

YMS-15 Gyan
This prototype unit was used as a test bed to design a mobile suit purely for close combat. Limited ranged weapon capabilities and high cost prevented its mass production. Captain M'Quve, an eccentric Zeon officer, took a liking to this unit and used his as his personal mobile suit during his last battle.

Gyan is an underrated mobile suit. Despite its bizarre appearance, it has considerable firepower in close quarters combat. Take good care of its shield: if it is destroyed, you will not be able to use its primary and secondary weapons.

  • Missiles: Missiles are launched from shield. Weak firepower but decent accuracy and long range.
  • Aerial Mines: These mines will explode after about 5 seconds and quite useful for close quarters combat.
  • Beam Sword: This massive sword is quite lethal in close combat. Since it is always drawn, there is no delay between it lethal 3-hit combos.

Notavailable.svg

MSM-03 Gogg
Gogg is one of the several amphibious Mobile Suits designed by Zeon. Its tough armor provides excellent protection not only to depth pressure but also enemy attacks. For these same reasons however, it has limited mobility. Like all amphibious mobile suits, its boost gauge does not deplete underwater.
  • Mega Particle Cannon: Slow fire rate and very short range but has some splash damage.
  • Rocket Launchers: Unguided, so only effective against slow moving enemies or from very close range.
  • Claw: At least it can dish out a decent melee combo.

Notavailable.svg

MSM-04 Acguy
Acguy is a small yet nimble amphibious mobile suit designed for surprise hit and run attacks. Its limited armor protection is compensated by its exceptional mobility. Like all amphibious mobile suits, its boost gauge does not deplete underwater.
  • Head Vulcans: Four barrelled vulcans with weak firepower but can stun-lock enemies, opening way for a rapid combo attack.
  • Hand Cannons: Decent firepower, especially against enemies that are after stun-locked by vulcans.
  • Claws: Weak damage but quite fast with a 3-hit combo.

Notavailable.svg

MSM-07 Z'Gok
Z'Gok is arguably best amphibious mobile suit developed by Zeon. With its exceptional speed and powerful weapons, it can hold its ground even outside the water.
  • Mega Particle Cannons: Slow but powerful and accurate.
  • Torpedo Launcher: Head mounted torpedoes can fire rapidly with limited tracking.
  • Claws: Very powerful and fast.

Notavailable.svg

MSM-07S Z'Gok Commander Type (Char Aznable Custom)
Prototype version Z'Gok which was handed over to Ace pilots and other squadron commanders.

It is identical to Z'Gok but with much better stats.

Notavailable.svg

MSM-10 Zock
This slow and unwieldy vehicle operates more like a mobile artillery rather than a mobile suit. It has been designed to provide heavy fire support from afar during amphibious landings. Devastating firepower is considered an acceptable trade-off from its limited mobility.
  • Mega Particle Cannons: 4 barrels can fire towards the front and rear 4 barrels can fire backwards. Excellent range and firepower.
  • Head Mega Particle Cannon: Only useful to slow targets that are above you.
  • Claws: Slow but pack quite a punch.

Notavailable.svg

MSN-02 Zeong
This experimental Mobile Suit was designed to be used by Newtype pilots, allowing them to engage enemies from extreme range with its hands which can be launched from the arms. These remote controlled hands can strike enemies from multiple ranges and wreak havoc upon enemy formations. Incomplete when Federation forces invaded Zeon Space Fortress A Bao A Qu, Zeong was piloted by Zeon's Ace Pilot Captain Char Aznable during the final days of the war. While it has no legs, this is not considered a priority in space combat as it retains its exceptional speed. It is also one of the few mobile suits where cockpit is located in the head, rather than the chest.
  • Remote Controlled Hand Mega Particle Cannons: Hands can be launched and they can chase enemies and fire their finger mounted cannons. If you launch both, you will be defenceless in close combat. Launch one and keep one on you for best results.
  • Head mounted Mega Particle Cannon: Powerful but can fire only one shot before reloading.
  • No Melee: Zeong has no melee attacks. Pressing the melee button will fire the finger mounted cannons of the launched hand.
