Difference between revisions of "Mega Drive consoles in Northern Europe"

The Mega Drive console made its first appearance in this region in August 1990 and in the following months it appeared in other Scandinavian countries.

In the following years, the console appeared in the Baltics. It achieved good sales results there however, Sega had to contend with a hardware clone. Steepler, known in the former USSR for the production of Dendy consoles, sold here Mega Drive consoles produced by them or imported from Asia without Sega's consent. Eventually, Steepeler got along with Russian dealers for selling the official models along with the unofficial ones. Nevertheless, Sega consoles by Steepler have never been popular in the region. Mega Drive is one of the most popular consoles of the 90s in Baltic region along with PlayStation and famiclones.

In addition to the official products, it was possible to buy Mega Drive from Steepler. Some of them came from the original sources, for example from Buka and Nissho Iwai, and some were imported from other countries or they are clones.
