Operation Europe: Path to Victory 1939-45, known as Europa Sensen (ヨーロッパ戦線) in Japan, is a World War II simulation game by Koei and a part of their World War Series. It was first released on the PC-88 and was ported to a wide variety of platforms, including a 1993 port to the Sega Mega Drive.

Gameplay

Operation Europe is a strategy game with both tactical and strategic elements. Main map movements takes place in real time while tactical battles are turn based. Players can assign different historical generals to different positions and military units.

Player can also call for air strikes, paratroopers, reinforcements and deploy special forces units to affect the outcome of the battle.

Commanders

Commanders' skills are not fixed, they can be "re-rolled" with random numbers before the battle begins.

  • Leadership Affects speed of command executions and increases abilities for all unit types.
  • Charm Increases troop morale and chances of success when requesting supplies and reinforcements from HQ.
  • Infantry Increases effectiveness of infantry units.
  • Artillery Increases effectiveness of artillery units.
  • Tank Increases effectiveness of armored units.

Commanders can be assigned to following positions:

  • Army Commander Overall commander of all forces in the field. Leadership will be most important.
  • Chief of Operations Responsible for day-to-day operations and requesting forces and supplies. Charm is most important.
  • Chief of Intelligence Responsible for success rate of Special Forces. Leadership.
  • Division Commander There are four of these from 1 to 4. Leadership and appropriate skill for the unit type will be necessary.

These positions are already filled by computer:

  • Commander in Chief (CC): Overall leader of the faction you command.
  • Second in Command (CS): Highest ranking executive officer of the faction you command.
