REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1995--Sega of America Inc. today announced plans to increase its marketing focus for home entertainment products.

In addition to supporting its dedicated Genesis and Sega Saturn videogame platforms and PC port businesses, Sega of America will market and distribute products developed by SEGA SOFT, Inc., a newly formed independent software development company.

SEGA SOFT, a new company Sega Enterprises and CSK Corporation jointly announced today, will focus on developing content for multimedia PCs and the Internet, as well as Sega's dedicated platforms such as the Sega Saturn. The new company will complement Sega of America's own product development efforts.

The move will strengthen Sega's position as the leading provider of high quality interactive entertainment for the home, with a broader software product line to appeal to consumers of all ages. Sega of America is the only company to offer hardware and software products for every age group, as well as games for the PC and cable television.

Sega's current hardware product line includes Pico for 3- to 7-year-old children, Genesis for 8- to 14-year-old kids and Sega Saturn for anyone 15 years or older; all these products hook up to televisions.

"We have a history of concentrating our efforts on leading in the living room entertainment area with great games on proprietary, affordable Sega platforms," Tom Kalinske, president and CEO, Sega of America and vice-chairman and co-CEO, SEGA SOFT, said. "Now that multimedia PCs have the kind of horsepower we need to run our style of games, we will focus on Sega also leading in the home office with great gaming software for PCs."

Sega of America will rely on its own development groups, SEGA SOFT and Sega Enterprises' development resources in Japan to feed its marketing team with ample hit software to carry the Sega brand name forward. Sega of America's development group will concentrate on Pico, Genesis and Sega Saturn software which can be ported to PCs, while SEGA SOFT will focus on titles that can be marketed for the Sega Saturn and the multimedia PC at the same time. In addition, SEGA SOFT will develop entertainment content for the Internet.

"Sega of America has been preparing for simultaneous distribution of our games for the TV-based platforms and the PC for a long time, and we're ready to unleash our marketing team to capitalize on both environments," Kalinske added.

Sega of America is the arm of Tokyo, Japan-based Sega Enterprises Ltd. responsible for developing, marketing and distributing Sega products in the Americas.
