PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1995--Gamers everywhere have something to smile about this holiday because an edgy, green gecko is comin' to town.

On Dec. 18, retailers across the country will be selling the outrageously popular GEX, the first 3D character-based, action platform game for a next generation system will make its debut on the PlayStation game console and Sega Saturn.

GEX, a wise-cracking, TV-watching, hyper-active gecko lizard created with more than 450 frames of animation on Silicon Graphic workstations by Crystal Dynamics, is a next generation gamer's game. After being literally sucked into evil Media Dimension, where pop culture, cheesy "B" movies and 70s television shows reign supreme, GEX must travel through various worlds to kill TVs (remember the bumper sticker?!) and destroy the villain Rez and his evil media minions. Armed with a thrashing tail, suction cup hands and feet and a smart mouth loaded with more than 300 one-liners and sound effects performed by HBO comedian Dana Gould, GEX is one hilarious next generation video game.

"GEX, with his irreverent personality, outrageous one-liners and great action is proving to be the game of choice for next generation gamers," said Scott Steinberg, director of marketing for Crystal Dynamics. "GEX on the PlayStation game console and Sega Saturn system is full of action-packed worlds with sharp 3D graphics, enhanced CD quality voice over and addictive gameplay."

In addition to hitting retail shelves, GEX has been featured in an aggressive multi-million dollar marketing push that includes a retail promotion, print advertising, and a national broadcast advertising campaign which also debuts Dec. 18, and runs through Jan. 27, 1996. The television campaign includes two 15-second commercials that will air on MTV, ESPN, ESPN2, Comedy Central, the Sci-Fi Channel, and E! Entertainment Television.

The GEX video game ranked in the top-5 in the prestigious Annual CBS Toy Test 1995, and has been rated the "Best Video Game Character of the Year" by Game Fan Magazine, "Editor's Gold Choice Award" by Electronic Gaming Magazine, and GamePro Magazine's "Best 3DO Game of Show" at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show.

GEX is available at a suggested retail price of $59.99.
