NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1996--Sega Entertainment Inc., a leading publisher of arcade-style software for the PC, and Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today announced a multilevel partnership that will bring stunning arcade- quality 3D game titles to Compaq home personal computers. This marks the first partnership between world leaders in the gaming, entertainment and home computing industries.

Through the use of the world's most advanced 3D graphics technology -- PowerVR -- Sega Entertainment will develop its top arcade hits to run on Compaq's Presario home PCs. The first title is expected to be available in early 1997.

Compaq's next generation Presario products, introduced today, feature the PowerVR Arcade 3D graphics super accelerator, which offers unmatched 3D realism for explosive gaming action.

"By joining forces with an entertainment giant like Sega we can take full advantage of PowerVR's advanced technology and deliver a real arcade experience in the home," said Mike Heil, senior vice president and Group General Manager, Consumer Products Group, Compaq. "This clearly reflects a common vision between Compaq and Sega that the PC will enhance the role of entertainment in the home."

"Today's announcement enables Sega Entertainment to take a giant step forward in delivering the ultimate gaming and entertainment experience to home PC consumers," said Shoichiro Irimajiri, representative director, Sega Enterprises and board member of Sega Entertainment. "We will be able to deliver the most powerful and exciting games of very high quality."

In addition, Compaq plans to offer the Sega entertainment experience across all Presario platforms by bundling Sega's most popular PC game titles. Compaq and Sega have also agreed to pursue after-market sales programs for current and future Presario owners.

PowerVR Arcade 3D Graphics

PowerVR 3D Arcade graphics is the highest performance 3D accelerator available for the next generation in interactive entertainment. Offering 6MB of total graphics memory and supporting 1 million large polygons per second, its performance is comparable to today's coin-operated arcade systems.
