Sonic The Hedgehog has a new road mission in this fully rendered adventure

Sega of America Thursday announced that Sonic The Hedgehog will command an encore appearance on Game Gear as he moves across all Sega platforms this fall.

"Sonic Blast," the first 2-D computer graphics rendered game for Game Gear, is Sonic's fourth title on the portable eight meg system.

Now, enthusiasts can battle Dr. Robotnik in fully rendered graphics on any of the game's 14 levels.

Gamers can play as Sonic or Knuckles and race through 14 levels -- plus one bonus round -- in search of hidden power-ups. Capitalize on Sonic's special power-ups such as 10-ring, high-speed, fast boots and, of course, invincibility. Double-jump to the high, out-of-reach areas by deploying Sonic's new "Boost Blast."

Switch characters to Knuckles and initiate plan two as he flies and soars to defeat the evil genius Robotnik. Complete the mission by collecting the strategically placed big rings to reach the fully 3-D bonus level.

"Game Gear allows the gamer to maneuver everywhere, just like Sonic, with his infamous speed, dexterity and attitude," said Chrissie Kremer, director of marketing, Sega of America. "Hidden in the depths of pockets, backpacks and suitcases, Game Gear can mobilize Sonic at a moment's notice."

On peaceful "South Island," Sonic sleeps comfortably in his hammock guarding the precious "Chaos Emerald." With a blinding light, Sonic wakes to find the "Chaos Emerald" glowing and spinning furiously. Sonics tries to find out what's happening just as "Chaos Emerald" crumbles into five separate gems, scattering to many directions.

This is the maniacal doing of Dr. Robotnik, whose beam hit the "Chaos Emerald" instead of the famous Hedgehog. Now Sonic's mission, along with the help of his pal Knuckles, is to acquire the "Chaos Emerald."

Rated K-A for all audiences, the all-new action adventure "Sonic Blast" is now available for a suggested retail price of $34.99.
