The Sega MultiMedia Studio demo disc is a demonstration CD created by Sega Multimedia Studio as a means to promote the Sega Mega-CD (Sega CD) in North America. It was not released publicly, though was displayed at Summer CES 1992[1].
The disc is not "playable", instead consisting of a real-time demonstration of the Mega-CD hardware, namely its ability to scale and rotate sprites and play full motion video. Holding START pauses the video (though not the audio), while holding 
, 
or 
slows the video down by differing amounts.
The demo's repeated use of Sonic the Hedgehog meant it was erroneously reported by several news outlets at the time as being part of (the unreleased) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 CD[2][3]. It was also mistaken for the scrapped Mega-CD version of Cool World.
As well as featuring an extract from Cool World, the demo also contains footage from Batman Returns and the 1946 Bugs Bunny cartoon, "The Big Snooze". Star Trek, ToeJam & Earl and a single sprite of Joe Montana also make an appearance.
