Who was Kaken?

Okay, so one of the primary sources here has been (unfortunately) the Japanese wikipedia article for Megahouse. And even without speaking the language, I can tell you it's wrong in several places. First, the article says this company was established as Kaken Co., Ltd., and in ANOTHER place it says Science Giken Co., Ltd. Are these the same company? Giken means like, profession, and Kaken means like, family home? Could they be two different names for the same company?

Another issue is who merged into who. The JP wiki article says Angel and B-AI merged into... Angel. Yes, it legitimately says that. Now this could absolutely be Google Translate borking things up, but given the quality of some of these developer articles, I wonder if the author was saying "Angel and B-AI were merged to BECOME Megahouse." Which is what the Mobygames ref says, and that one's written pretty confidently. Only problem: It states Angel, B-AI and KAKEN were merged together to become Megahouse.

So I'm going to get this article as cleaned up as I can, and in the future, if we find new research that clears this up, we can change some company names, move content, etc. But for the moment, here are the two likely possibilities:

  • Angel and B-AI were merged together to become Megahouse Corporation (more likely) Ref
  • Angel and B-AI were merged INTO the existing Megahouse Corporation (less likely) Ref

Another problem is, the JP wikipedia article is an article for "Megahouse", and again depending on how much faith you have in how these writers conform to standards, this may change how the article is read. As it currently exists, it's saying Angel and B-AI merged into the existing Megahouse, but honestly, I think that's either mistranslated or poorly written, and its actually saying that Angel and B-AI merged together to become Megahouse.

AS FOR KAKEN slash SCIENCE GIKEN: Either they were a separate company that merged into Angel at some point (likely before any of this took place), or they were always Angel. This point needs more research, and the article needs future changes from the results.

Questions

So here's the list of questions that need to be addressed before we can call this page reliable:

  • How was Angel formed? Was it founded in 1962 as Kaken or Science Giken?
  • Which developers merged into/with Angel to form... who?
  • If Kaken was indeed a separate company, who were they and when did they merge into Science Giken/Angel?

At the end of the day, this isn't the most priority article, but I wanted to leave this here to help anyone with future research. CartridgeCulture (talk) 00:01, 15 September 2021 (EDT)
