Confusion over proto releases (ex Crackers)

So it looks like Dyer was associated with (one of?) the big proto release(s?) DRX did. In fact, he had nothing to do with it (per DRX), so moving this here. Now while he wasn't the one that "leaked" that big proto release, he WAS flashing/selling prototype carts during his time at SoA. Which is probably where the association came from. ref

Him being misattributed with DRX's big proto release is notable. But notable enough to put in his article? Hm... yes, but not in a full section. The section should be able him flashing/selling proto carts, and how that led to the confusion that he did this release, but not much else. Its relevant in the big picture, but only to a point.

The Neptune stuff is a different story. CartridgeCulture (talk) 19:57, 17 November 2021 (EST)

More proto stuff

  • Byuu (that's Byuu in the post right?) got a bunch of prototypes of Sega's LCD handhelds from Dyer, here.
  • Whaaat. Per the post, SoA threw them in the garbage, and Dyer saved them by- picking them out of the trash. Reminds me of Atari throwing out all that old source code/documentation only to have that Atari superfan sneak the stuff out of their rear dumpster at 3am.
  • More history stuff, but he got fired from Sega. Did they catch on to these proto releases? From what I remember, a lot of these companies had a surprising ear to the ground for stuff like this, and were more aware of their employees selling protos than the staff would normally be aware of, but I'm curious if his firing had anything to do with this.
  • Regardless, at the end of the day he's a great guy, and tbh (for better or worse) his actions ended up preserving a lot of relevant history. Man it seems everything is a double-edged sword with SoA. But no negative feelings, critically or subjectively, and that can get a minor mention in the article. Just to contextualize this part of his legacy.
