Janou Touryuumon

From Sega Retro

This is probably a port of Janou Touryuumon II as it shares the same boxart and released later. As the first wasn't released on Mega Drive they probably dropped the "II", but it's difficult to verify for non-Mahjong playing, non-Japanese speaking, non-DOS/V users ...Pirate Dragon (talk) 18:39, 5 November 2022 (EDT)

Hey I was going to post that
Actually I think this Mega Drive game might be its own thing. Janou Touryuumon was released in 1987, while Janou Touryuumon II was released in 1991, both for the PC-9800 series. This Mega Drive game came out in (late) 1993
But because I'm just so cool I went hunting for both versions to check, since there's no footage on the internet, and while I don't know what I'm doing, there's not much in common with the 1987 game. Janou Touryuumon II is more similar but not exactly the same - it's got a similar menu and some music is shared (as is the box art) but the title screen and table layouts are different. But then that was always going to be the case when moving from 640x400 to 320x224.
So my guess is that's it's a pseudo-port of PC-9800 Janou Touryuumon II with bits tailored for the Mega Drive hardware. That Teradrive or DOS/V port is likely much more in-line with the PC-9800 original -Black Squirrel (talk) 19:06, 5 November 2022 (EDT)
At least that solves the problem of what to call the page if they were combined. I'll edit the pages to reflect.Pirate Dragon (talk) 04:59, 6 November 2022 (EST)
