Spencer Nilsen

From Sega Retro

Query: Would it be reasonable to say that, based on the Sonic Boom CD, Nilsen also did Palmtree Panic (Bad Future) and Quartz Quadrant (Bad Future)?

Nilssen wrote all the music to the American version of Sonic CD with the exception of the Past songs. Unless these two remixes also used Hataya's mixes in them? - Andlabs 18:57, 11 April 2011 (CDT)

[04/16/11] If that's true then what did Sterling do? http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Boom --> These credits look a little too official to be fake, don't you think?

That being said, Game Over could be Nilsen's based on his interview (http://info.sonicretro.org/Spencer_Nilsen_interview_by_SageXPO_%28July_30,_2009%29), as he says that he was looking for an Unsolved Mysteries-like sound for the boss theme, which carries over into Game Over via the laughing. I suppose the laughing was added by him instead of Sterling when you consider his role (perhaps he arranged all of Sterling's composition, which technically makes him involved with every track in the game). Therefore, Game Over is his, but Boss!!, Final Fever, and all the versions of Collision Chaos and Metallic Madness are all Sterling's at least in terms of composition.

InstantSonic: Before I go to work, I have my own question for you, Mr. Nilson... What inspired you to create the boss music for Sonic CD? It's very different, and always reminded me of the theme from Unsolved Mysteries.

Spencer Nilsen: I was looking for a theme that would maintain intensity, but be a little playful at the same time. It's funny you should mention Unsolved Mysteries because I always liked that theme a lot. Just before I went to work for Sega, I had met the composer for that show, who asked me to compose a few cues for the show.

And yes, the two Bad Futures I mentioned above were total failures on my part: I always beat the stages before I heard Pastiche's vocals, so they don't come to me as naturally. :/ [derp]

Maybe Sterling only worked on Boom — check the credits to the US version of Sonic CD. :/ IDK... - Andlabs 18:20, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
