VR-1

From Sega Retro

Can we confirm AS-1 relation?

So this article and the AS-1 article both need sections on how the motion simulator hardware was also used in the other one. But we really should attach a reference to it. Admittedly this is purely speculation on my end but. Just look at it. Same size, same capacity, same naming scheme. Cmon. It's gotta be the same hardware. Right? Promotional booklet

Another really interesting page here.

there's tons of interesting bits and pieces on VR-1's development history out there that just haven't been properly preserved yet, that promotional booklet shown in the well-known page you've linked is one of them - currently on the look out for proper scans of this issue of Login magazine where it features too

as already stated by the Japanese article, the MVD would later end up being used in the designs for the Virtual-On mechs, and the game itself may have even been planned to use the headsets at one point in time on Model 1 hardware

i'm also thinking of giving MVD its own page - completely different headset to the Sega VR despite people confusing the two, and the coverage given to its development on the Net Merc page would fit better on it

Agreed, I was thinking the same about the MVD ;) And as for that first booklet... I just found and purchased a copy today, and once it arrives I’ll get in touch about doing some scans (verrry unfamiliar with proper scanning). Thanks for all these awesome links too! if you do have that and plan upload it to here, then fantastic - seems like there's a real wealth of information in the booklet, as well as lots of good pics. no pressure on doing that asap though, learn at your own pace on producing scans 👍 Ted618 (talk) 04:24, 9 April 2021 (GMT)
An update. The booklet arrived! I'm moving in about two weeks so I'd like to wait until then, but in the meantime I need to learn how to scan properly. Also I should mention, it's not the booklet itself, but a magazine that contains the content of the booklet as an individual section.
When I looked at the existing photos, I noticed there was a credit to some car magazine. Gave it some research, found the issue it was published in. Apparently the booklet was partially assembled by the magazine/magazine's parent company, and said company decided to publish the contents of the booklet in their car design magazine. And I found someone selling it (actually, I found two sellers, one of which should still be live by the date of this post), and bought it.
This weekend I'll open it up and take some handheld shots. CartridgeCulture (talk) 02:55, 12 May 2021 (EDT)
