ConsoleRelease

From Sega Retro

"That change broke the template, we already have "consolecode" that goes below the console image"

The package code is usually (but not always) different than the console code. For example, Magic Knight Rayearth Game Gear package code is HGG-3214, whilst the console code is HGG-3210 RAY.--Pirate Dragon (talk) 21:27, 6 February 2017 (CST)
Note that not all consoles (or all regions) have two different codes though, so it may not be ideal to make it a general thing. Also, a "code" column didn't give me a hint about what it was about, looking just as something repetitive. It seems we need a better approach, perhaps adding an optional "packagecode" below the box images (similar to how "consolecode" works) would do. What do you guys think? --AllisonKidd (talk) 08:49, 7 February 2017 (CST)
I agree--Pirate Dragon (talk) 13:21, 7 February 2017 (CST)

Neither this template (or Template:AccessoryRelease) are very good - I just threw them together so there was somewhere sensible to put console/accessory information. They have an amazing knack of either looking too "empty" or looking too "full" - there will be better solutions (particularly from a technical perspective).

I'm thinking it might be better to divide each row into two. On the left, a "bigger" version of the scanbox template, where we've got all the scans of things that came in the package. On the right, a description, so we can safely replace older pages like Special Dreamcast Models. There are more special/time limited/retailer specific consoles than I originally anticipated.

Dreamcast: Large Dog Edition
Release date: 2084-01-01
RRP: $43.34
A very special Dreamcast shaped like a large dog. Unlike normal Dreamcasts, this variant is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and can traverse through space and time. Only 435 were made.

Large dog Dreamcasts will only accept controllers shaped like puppies. Later iterations of the PlayStation 2 included similar canine interfaces, but are incompatible due to spite.

but fix layout issues and make it pretty, etc.

This may need further experimentation... unlesss it looks crap. In which case ignore me.

I'd quite like to start linking photos of consoles to PCB revisions - there are a lot of subtle differences we're not documenting properly, such as the LED sizes of Mega Drives and how many ventilation holes are on the Saturn. See if we can draw correlations between the quality of the hardware and which manufacturing plant was being used. Maybe have multiple angles of consoles similar to how we're dealing with boxes - I don't know -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:59, 7 February 2017 (CST)
