IGN dates

It seems that IGN "localises" the dates depending on where the page is accessed from. Accessing from the UK gives a date of December 31st for Batman Returns, but when using a US proxy I got the date of May 19th that you referenced. Not an issue as you linked an archive of the page, and the Internet Archive is based in the US, but could be an issue if someone wanted to reference the UK page. That "UK" date is obviously a placeholder though, it released in September going by the official Gallup charts.Pirate Dragon (talk) 11:50, 15 April 2021 (EDT)
Interesting. Thank you for the heads-up about IGN too! I wonder if there’s a way to stop it, or archive a copy that won’t change the date. Good find with those posts too, I really like the idea of using these to help sort out release dates ;) CartridgeCulture (talk) 16:42, 15 April 2021 (EDT)

Image tagging

Can you please tag the files before uploading them? Just paste the respective tags on the "Summary" box before uploading them... best regards...--Asagoth (talk) 09:07, 22 April 2021 (EDT)

Anytime, you're super welcome! And I'll absolutely start tagging my uploads. My bad! I didn't even know tagging was a thing. I'll go back and tag my older uploads too. ;)
As always I genuinely appreciate the help, thanks again Asagoth.

Romaji

Just letting you know, we use wapuro romaji for Japanese names, so long "o" becomes "ou" and long "u" becomes "uu". There are very few instances where a page's title isn't plain ascii. - Hivebrain (talk) 22:08, 30 May 2021 (EDT)

Got it, thanks for the heads up. I'll start putting Refs under external links too :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 01:59, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

Company logos

It's unlikely we're going to maintain categories for every company, so I'd just do

{{logo|company}}

when it comes to categorisation. That'll throw it in Category:Company logos -Black Squirrel (talk) 10:48, 10 September 2021 (EDT)

Got it, that'll actually be easier. Thanks :)

Hey thanks so much for helping with that text replacement BS c:

Talk:David Bowie

if these pages are just going to be "xxx worked on one third-party game", might be easier to let Wikipedia handle that -Black Squirrel (talk) 06:24, 21 October 2021 (EDT)

ok. suppose my reasoning was the "we want to cover everything sega-relevant here and not elsewhere" thing. do we only cover third-party staff if they've done a certain amount of games? or if they have a specific amount of relevant development history/contributions/etc? either way my bad, not trying to make any noise here :( CartridgeCulture (talk) 06:54, 21 October 2021 (EDT)
It's more about whether there's enough content to justify a page - the Omikron page will already detail David Bowie's involvement, and since he didn't do anything else Sega-related as far as I can tell, all a dedicated David Bowie page is going to offer is "worked on Omikron", i.e. we're just duplicating the Sega-related information.
Michael Jackson, meanwhile, has been in games, has been consulted on things, has inspired certain Sega products, etc.. So it's about making a judgement on what is worthwhile. -Black Squirrel (talk) 07:19, 21 October 2021 (EDT)
that makes sense, got it. im sorry again for the extra pages, i'll get the necessary edits made and flag things for deletion. CartridgeCulture (talk) 07:24, 21 October 2021 (EDT)

Nishiyama

Fun working with you this month on the Chieki Aoki corrections! Embarrassed to say I still can't figure out how to properly edit multicredit "production credits" sections on pages like Akinori Nishiyama, who is still misidentified there as Chiemshi for PSII, PSIII, and in his production credits header's aliases. For whatever reason, only half of the multicolumn appears for editing, and all the titles tend to disappear when I try to edit anyhow. Is there a simple thing I'm missing? In any event, I'd love to fix those bits! Zanza (talk) 01:19, 19 December 2021 (EST)

yeah you too! I legit always enjoy the few moments of interaction that happen here ;p Hm ok, I wouldn't know what's going on without seeing it. I looked at Akinori Nishiyama's page... so in the past, production credits were often entered manually, but we've been moving over to automated templates. So if you were to edit his production credits section, you'd see a ProductionHistory template, with a | separating the word ProductionHistory and Nishiyama's credited names/aliases. The template automatically checks every page for his name, and fills that template upon clicking Actions > Purge cache (in the top right.) However, you'll also see a manual list of credits below that. If you see an error there, just delete the entire line. We're getting rid of those manual lists anyway.
As for getting "Chiemushi" and "Chiemshi" out of that automated template, just delete them (and any extra | symbols) from the template's list of names/aliases. Once you Purge cache the page, that template shouldn't be pulling credits for those aliases anymore. Hope that helps! If you're still running into issues let me know, I'm on discord if thats easier too :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 01:35, 19 December 2021 (EST)
Big thanks! Yes, the purge cache option did it. Until I selected that, post-edit it was just showing blanks for all titles on the left column. Anyway, this is wonderful! Thanks to this help and your kindly creating the basic page for Chieko Aoki, we now have proper credit for this under-recognized female director of stories that were way ahead of their time! Happily, most other common English credit sources like Mobygames are correct these days as well, and I even submitted her name to gamefaqs, though Nishiyama is still there as a duplicate director. But having the proper credits here on SegaRetro will go a long way as the most authoritative source for these things! Zanza (talk) 12:49, 19 December 2021 (EST)
I absolutely agree, and happy I could be of help :) Thanks for all the help you've provided as well, and for contributing directly. We would genuinely love to see more of your input around the wiki. CartridgeCulture (talk) 22:58, 20 December 2021 (EST)

Non-Sega screenshots

Retro CDN would be better :) -Black Squirrel (talk) 04:16, 23 December 2021 (EST)

Got it, that makes sense. I'll get these moved over now, ty for the heads up. and merry almost christmas!! CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:25, 23 December 2021 (EST)

Other

Hi, your contributions are appreciated, but could you please stick to factual stuff rather than subjective stuff such as "kusoge" or "NSFW". What one person might consider should be included in those categories, another might not. Articles should be factually sourced, and not be randomly tagged without sources.Pirate Dragon (talk)
Moved this from my main page to talk page. The kusoge thing wasn't me, saw someone else do it so I thought I'd add a few more to the category. As for NSFW, that's not really that subjective, it's just an on/off when there's nudity present, and even then I'm pretty much just copying TCRF's policies. I believe we're already discussing this on your post on Talk:NSFW. I understand that you mean the best but this isn't really necessary, and we should probably just keep this to that talk page. I legit don't mean any offense whatsoever and honestly enjoy working alongside you, thanks for understanding :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 01:07, 21 February 2022 (EST)

About Outworld

Hello, CartridgeCulture. Thank you for messaging me. Under my real name Isaiah Mays-Vinson, most of the stuff discuss about Outworld with some the developers are on here. There's even assets from the game too like the opening/ending of the game feature the alien biker. Sadly, there's no sprites of him with his butt sticking out when riding a hoverbike. https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2023/01/outworld-2375-ad - (Zaycool - https://segaretro.org/User_talk:Zaycool)

Awesome, thanks so much!! I just discovered your Twitter and your post now, this is crazy! I'm floored, what a find. You're a champ, thank you again :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 03:57, 11 March 2023 (EST)

No Problem ;)! I figured I might want to help out after a Reddit user's quest on discovering more on Outworld! Hope you might update the game's page by adding the assets and other stuff.

By the way, you might also want to check out Mutant Speed Demon on the same site, Games That Weren't. I able to found assets from a developer's old site and you might want to add that as well. Thanks

- (Zaycool - https://segaretro.org/User_talk:Zaycool)

Hello again, CartridgeCulture, since you're getting interested on the finding of Outworld, I think you might want to contact Video Game History Foundation (or a VGHF staff Frank Cifaldi on Twitter) about the game without being hasty like I was times ago where I kinda screwed up due to a lot of begging as I got TOO excited. If I remember, there was a discussion about the game on Gaming Alexandria Discord server with the picture of the game's cartridge if you might want to take a look on the search box in the server. I just remembered that I suppose have to tell you on this but I wind up forgetting what your Twitter account is. Good Luck! P.S. Don't edit the game page on this one fyi. - (Zaycool - https://segaretro.org/User_talk:Zaycool) May 5th 2023

Help with RetroCDN tags

Hello, Nicolaas Hamman hierso. I saw the Todo/Images page and the Sonic CD leaddesigners group image. I was able to tag a majority of the people after finding the original jnterview, but the tags I made for the original versions on RetroCDN don't seem to work, only displaying Template:Person. They work just fine on Sega Retro, though. Could you please see what the issue might be? Hope that's OK.

2 {s and 2}s have been removed so this page doesn't tagged.

Ok, I added a few templates. Image tags should work on RetroCDN now. They'll only work for making a list on that page for informative purposes, and the tags won't show up in templates on Sega/Sonic Retro. For that, you'll need to "Add local description" for the filename on the Sega/Sonic side. Hope this helps! CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:41, 28 August 2023 (EDT)
Thank you! It definitely works over on RetroCDN now. I was definitely adding it for informative purposes so editors in the future could have a better foundation, so I don't think I'll need a shared repository at the moment (although I did make one as a test, I guess it's alright to keep around?). Nicolaas Hamman (talk) 11:05, 28 August 2023 (GMT+2)
Anytime :) And that Sonic CD team filepage can stay for sure (it would look nice as an inline on the CS1/CS3 page too). I'd actually recommend making local descriptions for any people photos on Retro CDN, so they show up in our people Photograph category pages here. Because we moved over almost all of our staff pages from Sonic Retro, this kind of situation won't happen often. CartridgeCulture (talk) 05:14, 28 August 2023 (EDT)
Oh, when you get a moment, could you crop out and upload a headshot for Hiroyuki Kawaguchi? Also, something I've found useful: use {{creditsheader|Top row}} and {{creditsheader|Bottom row}} etc between image tags, its a clean way of indicating who's who (left to right of course). A good example is File:SegaHeads 2005.jpg CartridgeCulture (talk) 05:27, 28 August 2023 (EDT)

Copying from TCRF

I'm cool with mirroring information from The Cutting Room Floor if it helps flesh out pages (information is meant to be a free resource for everybody, after all!), but can you please try using your own writing instead of just copying the same writing from them? You can still use information from them and point to them as a source, it's just that if we're heavily discouraging plagiarising writing from Wikipedia and Sonic News Network then we probably shouldn't be copying TCRF's writing either. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 08:35, 11 September 2023 (EDT)

Sure. Our Todo page still says aka let's copy TCRF, hence the verbatim content. Good to know, I've clarified that page now. CartridgeCulture (talk) 15:35, 11 September 2023 (EDT)

eremeka guff

don't know if you've already noticed, but Cait's added a number of search parameters field to her electromechanical arcade game index, including one by specific company - like so

I realise this is making all of those reference links you added of the complete index redundant, but in the absence of official documentation for some of these titles I would imagine this is now better to use for accessibility etc purposes -Ted618 (talk) 16:21, 14 September 2023 (GMT)

This is awesome, thanks for the heads up :) I don't mind updating my refs for something like this. Serious shoutouts to Caitlin too, wish she'd contribute here. CartridgeCulture (talk) 16:31, 14 September 2023 (EDT)

Bootlegs Russia

I see two problems.
1. The games that were in Unknown category weren't translations.
2. I wanted to have them in Unknown category until someone finds out who made it, because now no one knows what is this Notavailable.svg and some users can later add other image, not related to what it should be. - Geti3220 (talk) 11:39, 21 September 2023 (EDT)

1. The section's description was marked translations when it was moved. Thanks for the heads-up, I've gone ahead and made the corrections myself.
2. We can't have games floating around on custom pages. That's why the page was marked as Deprecated: we have places for this content within the existing system. If you need to work on something before its ready to be incorporated, your Userpage would be the best place for that. As for keeping unknown games "together", I've added Unknown company 1 to those bootlegs. If you add more bootlegs and don't know the company, mark them "Unknown company 2" or "Unknown company 3" etc.
I hope that's what you meant, its a little difficult to understand your message. Thank you again for contributing :) - CartridgeCulture (talk) 06:24, 22 September 2023 (EDT)
I was busy with something and I wrote it as quickly as possible so to correct everything. As an "Unknown" I understood section from "Mega Drive bootleg games in Russia" page that was deleted. You already made a correction so that is cool.
As for translation section I see one big problem. We can't have them like this [1] because New Game's and Simba's translation are different and now readers of the wiki might think that this two are the same. That's why I did the translation sections as separate hacks all the time.
As for Roadside Picnic [2] this is some hack and I don't know the real name of it. The best thing would be creating a page about that hack on Sonic Retro and add this scan of the bootleg in similar manner to this [3].
That's all of my advise.-Geti3220 (talk) 11:47, 22 September 2023 (EDT)
Okay, for the moment, you can add Translated by X in the comments= field. We might be creating a custom "translationgroup=" field in the future to address this. I've added this to those 3 applicable bootleg pages (I didn't know if "На русском языке" was the literal name of a group or not, sorry). If you encounter an updated version of a translation by the same company, you can use Translated by X, ver. Y or similar.
I'll leave Roadside Picnic for someone who's more familiar with Sonic hacks. Take it easy. - CartridgeCulture (talk) 18:24, 22 September 2023 (EDT)
"На русском языке" don't credit anyone. Most of the title screens says "На русском языке [Year]". - Geti3220 (talk) 02:43, 23 September 2023 (EDT)
