Model 3 version

Different introduction music

When the "Sega Presents" screen appears, hold both  START  buttons. If successful, track 29 (sd_song_shotstar) will play instead of track 33 (sd_song_adv_van). This only works if there aren't enough credits (and the game isn't set to free play), otherwise  START  will start the game.

Show credits in attract mode

Notavailable.svg

Hold  START  during the attract sequence, and the game's credits will overlay the fights. This only works if there aren't enough credits (and the game isn't set to free play), otherwise  START  will start the game.

Swap mode

Press HOLD Down START  when starting the game to switch to the other mode. If the machine is configured to team battle, this will swap it to normal (Virtua Fighter 3) mode, and if it is set to normal, it will trigger team battle.

Use alternative outfits

Hold  START  when selecting a character to use the alternative outfit. This will also cause opponent characters to change outfits too.

Fight on Virtua Fighter 3 stages

Regardless of whether the game is running in team battle mode, the game will always use Virtua Fighter 3tb versions of the stages. The exception is when a 2-player versus fight is initiated; if the challenger holds  START  before picking the stage, the original Virtua Fighter 3 version will be used instead.

Fight on Dural versions of stages

If, in a 2-player match, the challenger highlights a stage and holds  START , then lets the timer count down the Dural version of the stage will be used. This isn't possible if the stage selection setting is turned off.

Disable in-game music

Hold both  START  buttons in the silence before the fight starts. This only works in two-player matches.

Skip replay and victory animation

As with previous Virtua Fighter games, pressing  START  will skip the replay, and  START  again will skip the victory animation.

Prevent skipping of replay

If the winning player holds G, the replay cannot be skipped with  START  as described above.

Slow-motion replays

Hold E prior to a replay, and it will play at a slower speed.

Choose victory animation

Each character has up to seven different victory animations. You can choose which one you want to see by holding buttons after you win:

Pressing  START  during a single player game will cycle between four different camera views: first-person, third-person, top-down and the standard side-on perspective. It does not work in 2-player versus matches.

Show button inputs

VirtuaFighter3tb Model3 Inputs.png

Hold P+K+G+E when starting the game with  START . Select your character, and when a round begins, a log of your button inputs (alongside how long the button was pressed in game ticks) will be generated on the left hand side of the screen (or the right hand side for the second player). The Dreamcast port uses the same system in Training Mode.

Dreamcast version

Partial clean pause

When paused, hold X+Y to remove the paused text. Unlike most Dreamcast clean pause implementations, the background will remain dark, limiting its use.

Different introduction music

When the "Sega Presents" screen appears, hold  START  on both controllers. If successful, track 15 ("For You...") will play instead of track 0 ("Rowdy").

Use alternative outfits

Hold  START  when selecting a character to use the alternative outfit. This will also cause opponent characters to change outfits too.

Use alternative stages

In a versus match, by default normal mode uses Virtua Fighter 3 stages, and team battle uses Virtua Fighter 3tb stages. If the challenger holds  START  while selecting a stage, the "other" version of the stage will be used.

This means 3tb stages in normal mode and original Virtua Fighter 3 stages in team battle.

VirtuaFighter3tb DC US Dural1.png

VirtuaFighter3tb DC US Dural2.png

When selecting a character, press Down Up Right Left  START . If performed correctly, Dural will be highlighted. This does not work in the original Japanese version of the game.

Play as Dural in Training mode (NTSC-J version)

VirtuaFighter3tb DC JP DuralTraining.png

When selecting a character, press X+A+ START  for "Silver" Dural or Y+A+ START  for "Gold" Dural. This also works when choosing an opponent (although if the match is Dural vs. Dural, the second player will use the alternative colour scheme).

This code only works in the Japanese version. The "normal" Dural code has to be used overseas.

Change stage backgrounds in Training mode

When selecting a stage in Training mode, hold X or  START  for the Dural version of the stage, or X+ START  for the Virtua Fighter 3 version.

Turn Lau's portrait into Manabu Tsukamoto

VirtuaFighter3tb DC US ManabuTsukamoto.png

When selecting a character in Normal mode, highlight Taka-Arashi and press  START , highlight Sarah and press  START , highlight Lau and press  START , highlight Kage and press  START  then highlight Akira and press  START . This will turn Lau's portrait icon into a photo of Manabu Tsukamoto, one of the developers of the game.

Make welding sparks land on your opponent on Jacky's stage

VirtuaFighter3tb DC US Sparks.png

Hold P and E (A+Y by default) before the start of round animation, and the welding sparks will land on your opponent, rather than further in the background. If both players hold, it usually lands on player one. It has no effect on gameplay.

Snowman on Wolf's stage

VirtuaFighter3tb DC US Snowman.png

If Shun Di wins with an "excellent" against an opponent on Wolf's stage (the desert), a snowman will appear in the background during the win pose. You can only see it, however, if the camera is pointing in the right direction; Shun needs to face the sun on victory, with the shadow casting to the left of the screen.
