Roles

From Sega Retro

Not going to lie - this might not have been my greatest of plans, but if you take a newer game like Sonic Origins, there's a lot of jobs that don't fit into our current set of categories, and it's not immediately obvious what some of these terms mean.

Of course, it might be preferable just to treat anyone who isn't directly involved in game production as "marketing" or "other". I can't see anyone getting excited about Sega's licensing or financial departments, for example - I dunno -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:31, 28 October 2022 (EDT)

I've been thinking about this a lot too. For the most part, I think tracking non-development roles as accurately as possible will only be a benefit in the future, as I can absolutely see us automating people's roles into... something. If that's what you mean. But I also completely agree on the like, priority of focus aspect. Hum.
On this thought, I used to keep a list of roles I ran across while working on people pages, and I did end up consolidating a few things into one another, or preferring a more common term over less-standardized ones. So I think there's definitely wiggle room in terms of how we work with the information (short of entering every role as originally written by the info's source, yeck). If we automated it we could have it create sub-pages with individual definitions and in-bob links, but I don't know if we need to go that hardcore.
As an aside, thanks for making this page. This is exactly what I wanted from a Roles page: definitions of very Sega-Specific roles. We all appreciate the hard work, hope you've been well ;)
