The Values Team, also known as the Sega Values Team[1], is a small group within Sega established to evaluate how the company can improve the daily lives of the company's employees.[2] Generally, it involves the planning and executing of special internal events for staff at Sega of America and Sega Europe.

History

During her nearly two and a half years at the Values Team, Sarah Breton organized a number of internal events within the company.[2]

Dev Club was an after-work game development group which aimed to both share experience and provide for a means to assist employees in creating their own video games. Dev Season was a series of presentations on game development hosted by developers of Sega's various studios, designed to familiarize the concept of game development cycles to attending employees. Game Jam was an office-wide game jam, attended by the company's more seasoned developers to assist in coaching participating employees.[2]

Momji was a Japanese-language tutoring group held through weekly sessions. Classes were divided in two levels: beginners and advanced. Lessons were held by a native and a non-native speaker, and assisted employees in natural phrasing and grammar. In the advanced class, all the teachers were native speakers, and the aim was to speak only in Japanese during the class. Reportedly, over 90 people showed up for Momji classes. Spring Forward was a series of traditional Japanese activities, organized to introduce the company to its Japanese heritage. The Momiji team came up with unique and engaging activities to represent the culture, such as kimono dressing, tea ceremony, calligraphy, sake tasting, and origami, among others. Finally, Retro Season of Activities was an event within Spring Forward, in which the Momiji team organized an office-wide Sonic the Hedgehog drawing contest. Kazuyuki Hoshino, the creator of Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, served as the content's judge.[2]
