The Sega Mega-CD version of World Series Baseball is an unreleased baseball game[3][4] set to be released in late 1993. It was likely announced alongside its Mega Drive and Game Gear counterparts at Summer CES 1993, but was cancelled for unknown reasons.
It was suggested that the Mega-CD version would have additional "zooming and scaling"[5] and a "3D field view", not seen in the (likely otherwise similar) Mega Drive version. Some early screenshots and video footage has been attributed to the Mega-CD version, but may have just as easily been the Mega Drive version. The game was also advertised on the back of some game manuals, such as NFL Football '94 Starring Joe Montana, Greatest Heavyweights and Joe Montana's NFL Football[6].
All three versions of World Series Baseball were intended to ship in the Autumn of 1993, however only the Game Gear version made it to stores before Christmas. The Mega Drive version was delayed into early 1994, while the Mega-CD version seems to have been scrapped by October 1993. It is not known if this version of the game was ever planned to be released outside of North America.
