Localisation comparisons
Mega Drive version
All versions of Columns are region free, however the Japanese version is an earlier revision (00) than the game sold in the overseas (01).
The ® symbol was removed from the Sega logo overseas.
Similar changes were made to the Sega logo during the tutorial. Both versions of the game translates themselves to English if a non-NTSC-J machine is detected.
Minor changes were made to one of the fonts. "I", "K", "T", "W", "Y", "Z", and the "ED" symbol are all subtly different between the two revisions.
On PAL systems, the game uses the full 320x240 screen resolution, although in this case, Sega have merely substituted what would have been solid borders with patterned ones.
Game Gear version
The Western versions include a ™ symbol next to the Sega logo.
The 1990 copyright is updated to 1991, and another ™ is added to the Columns logo.
