Just as things almost get out of control, however, Sonic reveals to the others that Eggman was purposely causing the Egg Moon to obstruct the sunlight so that he could brainwash the people with his Sunshine Balls. Knuckles later restores sunlight to the town by kicking the Egg Moon out of the way.
