Sega Retro and NIWA

I'm the same Axiomist that owns WiKirby and staff of NIWA, a Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. Our organizations seem similar and rather different. I was one of the Zelda Wiki people on the slate of cofounders of NIWA. We worked with Bulbapedia and Super Mario Wiki to share technical solutions, links, resources, and lately have been getting new member wikis to grow the organization. We never intended for it to be fanboyism, simply a matter of related content and how it falls under Nintendo's umbrella. We want to work with similar groups such as SGNW, instead of our members creating their own using the NIWA model. We envision a larger network of independently hosted sites and wikis that would become the standard go-to hub for gaming content, especially wikis. Wikifarms have dominated for quite a while now, and Wikia's policy and skin changes are ripping that domination apart. But other wikifarms still exist and some other such as ShoutWiki may simply assume the role of the top freely hosted competitor. Our trouble with wikifarms is that while they control several sites, they allow plagiarism and other complaints to go unchecked; there's a responsibility dodge from both the paid and unpaid staff; and these sites are rarely done by people with the technical expertise and resources to maintain a quality site compared to independent sites.

To sum it all up, I'm wondering if SGNW is interested in an affiliation with NIWA. We'd like to see more wikis as well done as Sonic Retro's wiki (for instance) and would be interested in having a roundtable discussion from time to time to share wiki tech tips; as we find MediaWiki unresponsive and few working examples of extensions can be found. Hope to hear from people about this. Axiomist 05:48, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
