The Pri Fun (プリ ファン) is a low cost "video" printer released by Sega in late 1995. It is designed to convert single frames of composite video into physical pictures, acting as a rudimentary capture device.

The Pri Fun was not officially released outside of Japan.

Hardware

The Pri Fun is similar to regular computer printers, except rather than receving precise instructions on how to print a page, it merely prints the current frame of video, supplied by any device that can supply a composite video signal (examples listed by the box and manual include televisions, VCRs, camcorders, games consoles and LaserDisc players). It generates roughly 4x6-inch pictures (either as one image, or four smaller tiled images) on specially adapted paper using thermal dye. Each printer roll can produce up to 30 full colour prints.

The Pri Fun is a stand-alone device that only requires a video signal, however Sega offered means to extend its functionality. Thirteen "character packs" (キャラクターパック) where produced (often themed around licensed properties or Sega franchises); bespoke cartridges which offering 20 pre-configured printing patterns. A "Pause Pack" (ポーズパック) was also offered to "pause" the video feed, taking the guesswork out of printing moving footage. Multiple paper types were also offered, such as those with an adhesive backing to create stickers.

Contrary to suggestions on the box, the Pri Fun is not designed with either the Sega Saturn or Sega Pico in mind; it does not directly connect to any video game system, only composite video inputs. No Saturn games were developed with the Pri Fun in mind, however two Pico games were; Petapeta Chokkin Asoberu Zukan: Doubutsu and Sanrio Festival Tanoshii Card-dzukuri, which can render "printer friendly" graphics on-screen (in Sanrio Festival's case, greeting card templates). Neither game technically requires the Pri Fun to function.
