Sony Music Entertainment‏‎ (Japan) Inc. (株式会社ソニー・ミュージックエンタテインメント) (SMEJ) is a Japanese music company. It was originally established in 1968 as CBS Sony Records Inc.[1] as a joint venture between American firm CBS and Japanese corporation Sony. Sony would fully acquire CBS Sony during the 1980s, with this company adopting its current name in April 1991[1].

Sony Music Entertainment Japan is a distinct entity from Sony Music Entertainment, used in the United States, although both are subsidiaries of Sony Group Corporation.
